So…I may be done with my Christmas shopping, but I MAY have
forgotten saved the most important gift for last. If you’re like me, you’ve stressed over what to get your kids, your kids’ teachers, your parents, your husband’s family, your neighbors, your neighbor’s family, your neighbors’ families’ neighbors….but maybe, just maybe haven’t gotten a gift for that special someone in your life. Is it just me or are they hard to shop for? I’m sure you’re on top of things, but just in case, here’s a letter from my husband to help you out.
Santa Maybe by Paul
I’ve had a sudden craving for excess processed sugar, no desire to go to the gym, and lack of motivation at work, which means it must be Wednesday…or Christmas. The blatantly large tree in my front room probably means it’s Christmas. Suffering from male-syndrome I have absolutely no idea what to get my wife for Christmas and have yet to be able to divine her Christmas list. I’m sure there have been subtle hints that have gone completely unnoticed and probably unsubtle hints as well. An easy-to-follow Christmas list of what my wife wants would be highly beneficial and greatly appreciated. Because I need this level of assistance in shopping for my wife I can only assume she is in need of the same. So here it is ladies, the things your husband wants for Christmas…as long as your husband has the exact same interests as Brett Yerkes and me, otherwise, it’s probably way off.
Board or Card Games – Being able to spend quality time with my kids is top of the list of things I want for Christmas and having fun, age-appropriate games for them is advantageous in being able to accomplish this. A card game recently discovered by my family that is fun for adults and kids of most ages is Spot It. Wife’s Warning: Don’t be surprised if your husband spends hours trying to figure out the mathematics behind the game and how it’s possible that every card can have a match. I’ve almost got it figured out.
Tickets to Sporting Events or Concerts – Of course we will attend any event with you: ballet, opera, musicals, …zzzz…. We may even enjoy them, but mostly we go to be with you. Being able to attend a good (or mediocre) game or concert with you is a win-win.
Indoor Adventure – Since it’s snowing almost everywhere else in the country, this would be a great gift for the active guy on your list. We don’t really have these here in Hawaii, since we have the real deal and the weather to do it in, but activities like indoor rock climbing, indoor surfing or indoor skydiving would be fun. Something that we can have bragging rights for.
Outdoor Adventure– Skiing, snowboarding, hiking, you get the idea. Adrenaline rush stuff.
Video Games and Equipment – I don’t know anything about video games except that some guys love them. If you’re man is a gamer I’d just ask him directly what he wants or needs to augment and enhance his gaming experience. Don’t guess or assume on this one. You wouldn’t want him to come home with a new purse for you having never inquired as to your needs or wants. I’m sure you’d express a lot of gratitude for the new closet-storage bag he purchased from Walmart.
TYLT Energy+ Backpack – I’m a tech nerd, not quite as nerdy as a lot of the techno geeks I work with (see previous paragraph) but I enjoy my electronic gadgets. The TYLT backpack is actually quite practical, I’m telling myself over and over to justify the $200 price tag. This backpack has carrying capacity for all your devices and the best part: it has a portable battery pack that can be used to charge your devices when you’re on the go.
Milwaukee Cordless Power Tools – With power tools you get what you pay for and if you’re serious about having your handy man actually finish that project he started 6 months ago, a nice set of new tools should be motivation. And if not, he’ll have a great set of power tools with which he can start his next project. I recommend Milwaukee over other brands because in my opinion, and the opinion of the random older gentlemen who works at Home Depot who seemed to know a lot about tools, they are the best built and most reliable. I’m a fan of the M18 (18-volt) set and it’s a good deal right now on Amazon but the M12 (12-volt) set is a great tool as well.
iPad Air – The iPad is an unnecessary device that we have convinced ourselves that we need in order to justify paying for it. We need it because the technology is cool and it’s fun to play with. This is a win-win for the family because over time this will evolve from a necessary work-related device to a child’s plaything.
So there it is. If as a woman you suffer from male-syndrome, you probably haven’t started shopping for Christmas yet and this list will help you expedite the tedium of wandering through countless stores and trauma of wading through brigades of angry shoppers basking in the spirit of Christmas. If that’s not you and you’re like the other 99% of women I know, you finished Christmas shopping weeks ago and this list may just be the harsh realization that you didn’t get him exactly what he wants…or at least exactly what I want.
