Tang Rice Krispie Treats

If you’ve been following the posts on our facebook page, we’ve had a theme running this week regarding astronomy.  In honor of this theme, I decided to make some treats that would fit.  I developed these Tang rice krispy treats.  Everyone knows Tang was developed for astronauts (I don’t know why, but that’s the truth), and I couldn’t think of another “star” worthy treat.  I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

Here’s the recipe (adapted from simply southern baking):

4 Tbsp butter

1 10 oz bag mini marshmallows (I added 5 extra regular marshmallows)

1 1/2 tsp vanilla

1/2 to 2/3 c tang, depending on your preference

6 c rice krispy cereal

Directions:

Melt butter over medium-low heat.  Add marshmallows and stir to coat.  Continue stirring until marshmallows are almost melted.  Add vanilla and tang.  Stir until well-combined, and marshmallows have finished melting.  You want the sugar in the tang to dissolve as the marshmallows finish melting.  Add cereal and mix.  Press into a greased 9 x 13 pan.  Allow to cool.  Drizzle 1/2 c melted white chocolate chips over the top.  Use a cookie cutter (sprayed with non-stick spray) to cut into desired shapes.

One of the best parts of rice krispies treats is their adaptability.  What are some of your favorite flavor combinations in a rice krispy treat?
