Entrepreneur Interview and Product Review with Little Kate Designs

Little Kate Designs

Product Review

As you know, once a month we feature a shop, company, or woman entrepreneur, and this month we had the pleasure of conducting an interview with Tanya from Little Kate Designs.  Have you guys heard of Little Kate Designs?

They are a hair bow and headband company. They offer leather bows and headbands, as well as burlap and glitter. I want to start by saying that Tanya (the owner) sent me 4 products:
And we are in love. Seriously.
I have a hard time finding hair bows that are comfortable, affordable, stylish, and that my girls love as much as I do. With Little Kate Designs, my problems were solved.
This is a rave review. And here is why:
  1. The headbands stay on, fitting comfortably. My 16 month old is very picky about her head wear. It is hard to get her to keep any box on for more than a few minutes. I could not believe the success I had in getting her to wear the gold and silver headband. It was not too tight, it stayed put, and she forgot all about it.
  2. The design, colors, and quality are all exceptional. One thing I love about Little Kate Designs is how classy the bows and headbands are. They are beautifully made, come in great neutrals and classic colors. The quality is great. My 16 month old has been wearing the same bow all week, and has pulled on it a few times. I have noticed the headband has not lost elasticity or stretched. The bow is still secure, not falling off in any way. The same holds true for the braided headband. My 7 year old has been wearing it A LOT, and it has not stretched, frayed, or had any problems.
  3. My kids love them and so do I. I know I am not alone in having a daughter with a unique sense of style. Many a day I have to remind myself that is okay to let her express herself however she chooses. With the bows and headbands we got from Little Kate Designs, we did not have this problem. When I showed the bows to my daughter, she immediately went and changed her clothes so she could match the bow better. The next day when I presented her with the burlap bow, she said, “Oh my gosh, this is totally my style!” I died laughing. But she was right, and it was nice that we found some common ground. The bows go with just about everything, and I don’t have to shake my head and let it go when my daughter wants to wear one. Big Win for me!

They are my new favorite bow shop! I am in love, and you will be too! And, a big plus, they are really affordable, ranging from about $8-$14. Go buy some! You won’t regret it: Little Kate Designs Etsy Shop!

So, let’s learn a little more about this darling shop, how it got started, and what all they have to offer:

Tell us a little about you:

My name is Tanya Wonderly and I am the girl behind LittleKateDesigns! I often get called Kate and secretly love it! Lol.

I am a wife and a mother. My company was born just a little while after my daughter, Lucy Kate (named after my grandmother) was born. My 18 month old Lucy girl keeps me on my toes and she is the inspiration behind all that I create.

I worked as a personal shopper at a high end retailer for 5 years and chose to be a full-time mom right after I had Lucy. My love of fashion is instilled within me and I try to express it through each and every single one of my designs! I strive to create fashion forward pieces that are current with the latest trends and that appeal to all ages!

Who doesn’t love burlap, metallic leather, or glitter?? It’s timeless!!!

When did you start your business?

I opened my shop, Little Kate Designs, last year right as my daughter turned one.

How did you get started?

I was on a hunt for accessories that I loved enough to style my daughter with and wear myself. I tried to find things for Lucy that I myself would want to wear and I quickly began creating what I started imagining her wearing.

Walk us through a typical day for Little Kate Designs:

The second my alarm goes off my feet hit the floor and I begin making plans for the day. Between emails and orders, I find myself with my phone in hand constantly thinking of what’s next. I am a dreamer. I am a list-maker. I am a planner. Play dates, order fulfillment, production, dinner, reading time with my daughter, and everything else inbetween keeps me up into the wee hours of the night but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love every single second of it!!

Where do you get your design inspiration?

I have always had a love for fashion. Styles, textures, movement, cuts… It is all so enchanting to me. My daughter is my design inspiration. I design what I would love to see her wear. Timeless yet trendy pieces that stand out from the rest!

Braided headbandDo you have a favorite hair bow or headband?

My favorite headband is our classic Gold Metallic Bow on Silver Glitter Elastic. It is the perfect mixture of silver and gold and one of my very first headband designs.

What sets Little Kate Designs apart?

My designs definitely set me apart from the other Bow makers. The combination of the styles and prints is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before!
